Four astounding pediatric medical doctors see children daily at the Sacramento Valley Pediatric Medical Group in Sacramento, CA, and the Pediatric Medical Center of Sacramento in Elk Grove, CA. Our doctors Dr. Perla-Inez Maulino, Dr. Maria Nelisa Tan, Dr. Joan Villaflor, and Dr. Harrold Bravo Navea wish to discuss the subject of immunizations with their parents.

Immunizations

Sacramento Valley Pediatric Medical Group in Sacramento, CA, and the Pediatric Medical Center of Sacramento in Elk Grove, CA, believe that if you refuse to vaccinate your child, you could risk a lifelong incurable disease.

Vaccinations imitate the disease and help trigger your natural defense system. Once vaccinated, your body produces antibodies to protect you. Medical researchers have found nothing in vaccinations that they consider unsafe for your child.

Sacramento Valley Pediatric follows the immunization guidelines recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). For information about these vaccines and the diseases they protect against, please visit http://www.aap.org/healthtopics/immunizations.cfm

The flu and COVID virus show mutation every year, meaning the previous year's virus is different the following year. Researchers must target the previous year and adjust the vaccination for the following year.

Infants receiving their vaccinations do feel minimum pain. Comfort, hold, and cuddle the child. Speak to them in a gentle, soft voice. Older children need reassurance. Try to distract them from the moment by encouraging them to take a deep breath during the vaccination. Praise the child for their courage.

Vaccinations may have expected short-term minor reactions at the site, such as,

  • Soreness/Swelling/Redness/Mild Fever/Chills/Fatigue/Headache/Aches

Call us for serious side effects. Even though rare, it could mean an allergy to the vaccination.

  • Facial, Throat Swelling/Difficulty Breathing/Fast Heart Rate/Skin Rash/Hives/Dizziness/Weakness

Our Vaccine Philosophy

Our practice believes that all children should receive the recommended vaccines according to the guidelines provided by the AAP and the CDC. Vaccines are safe and effective in preventing diseases and health complications in children and young adults. Regular vaccinations help children ward off infections, and are administered as one of the safest and best methods of disease prevention.

We are happy to discuss your concerns about vaccines at your child's next visit.
